The Sylvan Winds are very honored to perform at the Stephen Wise Free Synagogue for this terrific program of new Israeli works discovered by our horn player Zohar Schondorf. We will explore new music from Israel along with the haunting wind quintet of Pavel Haas, as well as charming arrangements by Mordechai Rechtman and infectious Klezmer Dances by Gene Kavadlo.
This dynamic program takes audiences on a journey from the soulful melodies of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess to the exuberance of Bernstein’s Candide, with vibrant works by Israeli composer Zvi Avni, Czech composer Pavel Haas, and contemporary American composers Gene Kavadlo and Jan Radzynski along the way. Rich in color, rhythm, virtuosity, and cultural character, this is a wind program that offers presenters an engaging and accessible mix of beloved melodies and compelling chamber repertoire.
